Job was a blameless and upright man, he feared God and shunned evil (Job 1:1). Then circumstances of his life took a turn for the worse - he lost his tremendous wealth, he
lost his children, and he eventually lost his health - and yet Job refused to blame God (2:7-10). His friends said that it certainly was a result of Job's sins. Job
denied that.
Job did wonder why he was experiencing the calamity in his life, but rather than turning away from God. . . rather than trying to "fix"
things himself. . . rather than getting angry and bitter, he turned to God and God alone for the answers to his questions. Job went to God and demanded that He explain why
he was going through these trials. God's answer to Job showed exactly who was in control and who was God. Listen to just a few of the questions God asked Job:
"Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!" Job 38:4-5
"Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?" Job 38:17
"Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew?" Job 38:28
From that perspective, its pretty easy to see who is God. He controls our
lives. . . He is in control of the entire universe. . . and yet somehow, we continue to try to control our own lives, our circumstances, even the lives of those around us.
Today, why not allow God to be God? Allow Him to work out His plan in and around you. . . and trust Him. . . trust Him with your circumstances. . . trust Him with today. .
. and trust Him with tomorrow!
